Is it Summer, or..?

We hit 83 degrees (Fahrenheit) today! But it’s March? I forgot for a while that I am actually living in California! Sometimes I have to take a double take to realize that I’m living among the palm trees and sunshine and not in Central Oregon. Central Oregon where spring means mostly clear and frozen skies and dead grass and plants everywhere. I like it much better down here and it’s making me happy! One of my favorite things to do is study outside. Laying on a beach towel with friends and basking in the sun makes a 10 page annotated bibliography just that much more bearable.

I Really Did Lose it

And it was the one day that Aldo asked if I had it during the rehearsal process. Yes, out of all 18 weeks in this process the one day I lose my phone Aldo asks me to use it. Go figure, right? Of course, everyone found it to be pretty impressive that I happened to lose it in my room. Yes. I, a school supplies, clothes folding, organizational freak lost her phone in a 10 foot by 20 foot box. I would say that’s pretty talented and that explains how my mind has been working! For the record, I did end up finding it after rehearsal on the counter next to my toothbrush.

Dear Heavens,

It was a beautiful weekend! Not only did I complete ALL of my homework (that never happens on time) but I managed to have a TON of fun with my girlfriends! Emma had a sleepover, and Emma, Tia and Nurhan and I all spent the weekend eating out, shopping at Target (new shoes and a new jumper!), and staying up late watching all eight episodes of Stranger Things! We took group naps together with the sun shining on us, went to the farmer’s market and hula practice, and sat together screaming and yelling at the TV while watching the decisions made on the Oscars!

I’ve Been Shipped!

No, I did not buy a boat, no I did not get sent overseas, and no I’m not going on a crazy study abroad adventure (yet). But, our friend Squafam has officially made his return to the newsletters, and I believe he will continue to do so! As of February 13th, Christian and I are official! We may have been flirting and doing “couple-ish” things for a little while, but until 3am on February 10th, neither of us knew if the other one wanted to be more than friends, but we’re glad we both had the same answer. It’s a funny and cute story for sure! And yes, we are facebook official!

Points in your Pocket?

So there’s this app. That’s a very Silicon Valley thing to say and I just caught myself writing it, so I guess that means the Bay Area is rubbing off on me? Fine by me! Anyway, there’s a really fun app called Pocket Points and it’s really simple. You turn the app on when you are in class and it counts how long you have your phone locked. In other words, it counts how long you aren’t on your phone in class! You rack up points, and when you get enough, you can buy amazing deals and coupons with your points to everything from food, to clothing, even furniture!

It Really is Half Gone.

Monday the 6th we will be starting week 5 of winter quarter, but we will also be starting the second half of the school year. I can’t comprehend how much time has passed and how many memories have been made. It seems as if I just got here last week, yet it feels as if I have always been here. College is really, truly something special and is a time in my life I never want to forget. I’m happy to say that I’ve taken advantages of my opportunities and have already worked on amazing projects. Prayers that the opportunities keep presenting themselves and memories keep coming.

Party Number One:

It was after-party number two, just to be confusing. This Saturday night I was invited to the NAK Formal, a formal for a fraternity. I had no idea what to expect, and I was thoroughly blown away. It knocked my socks off which is pretty impressive because I wasn’t wearing any. The food was absolutely delicious, and so were the five different kinds of cake. The NAK pledges roasted their big brothers, danced for us, and we had the best DJ I’ve ever danced to. Talk about a fun night to feel all dolled up with some great friends.

Tower Theatre Time?

I may have mentioned this before, but I am working with Education Outreach at the Tower Theatre Foundation to create an audition workshop for theatre students 13-19 years old. Not only am I apart of creating the logistical schedule, designing flyers and the program curriculum, but I will also be acting as the student’s acting coach for the week. Not only am I honored to be serving the students, but it was also a fun coincidence that I am taking acting this term and am gaining amazing resources to further my acting education and soon, my students!

Air Freshener vs. Gravity:

Gravity won. Rewinding to the beginning, my roommate Betsy, bought a little wall plug-in air freshener that smelled like gingerbread and candied waffles. Those things are supposed to last months, but she managed to plug it in upside down, and well. Gravity did its job. The whole thing evaporated into the air within two hours, and the whole Sanfilippo Residence Hall smells like freshly cooked waffles. Welcome to room 109, home to the shenanigans of Betsy and Skylar!

War of the Nativity Set

My dearest grandma, Cheryl, sent me an adorable nativity set to put up in my room. Naturally, it ended up on top of the microwave so everyone could see it. Note: it is fairly hard to move because it is filled with fake (and messy) snow. The nativity set’s roof has a mind of its own and decides to collapse on itself at the most inconvenient of times. My floormates and I have officially declared war on my nativity set, and since then the set has only become more spontaneous with its “breakdowns.” I guess you could say that the effects of finals week are in full gear!
